November 4th Worship: A Month of Martyrdom – Saint Stephen
This month our Worship series explores the mystical realm of Christianity’s martyrs. A martyr is one who is persecuted and killed for their religious beliefs. Jesus foretold such deaths for those who followed him, and this is what Stephen experiences in the Book of the Acts of the Apostles. Was his death pointless? Was it the vicious reality of violence and sin? The answer is complicated, and the Church remembers the martyrs, those who died to testify to our faith, because even now faith in Jesus Christ is a threat to people, nations, and earthly powers.
