Beyond the Pulpit 8.24.25
Good Morning CUMC Family,
I hope this message finds you well on this Sunday morning!
This past week I attended a LOVE INC Board meeting, where we moved forward on opportunities to finance the purchase of the Klein Care Wagon, which will be invaluable in collecting furniture donations for those in need in our community. We also heard a review of the benefits of having LOVE INC vet benevolence requests. In fact, LOVE INC did vet request that came on Thursday afternoon, and we were able to team up with Crozet Baptist and Tabor Presbyterian to have a local woman’s water turned back on! Oh, and if you don’t already know it, our very own CUMC member, David Oberg, is now the Executive Director of LOVE INC! So be sure to congratulate him on this new role.
I also attended our monthly Church Council meeting where we highlighted positive summer victories like Vacation Bible School, Youth Mission Trip, painting of the rear wall of the sanctuary chancel area, expanding the Praise Team and having a portable drum riser constructed (still in process), cleaning the choir robes and anticipating new choir members when rehearsals resume in September, and a successful Ministry Fair last Sunday where we added 46 new photos to our online directory and received interest from lots of folks seeking to engage in a variety of ministries. On the financial front, June and July were the first 2 summer months since before COVID that CUMC had a positive balance, and we have continued to pay our apportionments each month!
I met with the Crozet Avenue Christian Preschool as the teachers were back in the building this week. Be sure to check out the amazing paint job that they accomplished this summer. It looks great, and we are so grateful for their commitment to helping make sure CUMC is at its best! We talked about our Chapel Theme for the coming school year which is LOVE and will be based on 1 Corinthians 13. I’m also looking forward to welcoming students to school next Tuesday and Wednesday as Pastor Peach! That might be even more exciting than Winnie the Seahorse from SCUBA VBS!
Those are the highlights. Sorry – no exciting picture today. But we do ask for your prayers as we prepare to take our youngest child to Randolph Macon College later this week! Go Jackets!
