Beyond the Pulpit 8.30.26

One of the things I love most about being a pastor is that no two days are ever the same! A week in the life of a pastor can take you in a hundred different directions, and this week was a pretty great example.

One of the callings of an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church is to “order the life of the church.” That’s United Methodist language for the administrative work of keeping our congregation organized and faithful to The United Methodist Book of Discipline, our denomination’s guidebook for how the church is structured, how leadership works, and how we faithfully carry out our ministries together. And right now, that means entering our season of nominations.

Our Committee on Lay Leadership & Nominations is prayerfully discerning who God may be calling to serve in leadership at Crozet UMC in the coming year. Please keep this team in your prayers. And if you’re feeling a divine nudge to serve, let me know! I’ll share your name with this group for further discernment. And speaking of calling, stay tuned for our new September worship series focused on God’s call and our response.

And then there are the days when I get to be Pastor Peach! 🍑 (See Below!) One of the things they don’t teach you in seminary is how much fun it is to welcome the little preschool “peaches” on the first day of school at Crozet Avenue Christian Preschool! Greeting these students and their parents, directing traffic, and handing out flyers to invite families to join us for worship and Grow Groups was such a joyful way to begin the school year. Their smiles were one of the highlights of my week! A huge kudos to Kay Carbaugh, Will and Amanda Hasley, and the entire CACP crew for an amazing kickoff. I’m grateful for our partnership and look forward to preschool chapel with these little ones throughout the coming year.

So, yes, administration, nominations, preschoolers, traffic directing, and lots of smiles. No two days are ever the same! And underneath it all is the same calling: to Love, Grow, and Go as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. What a gift it is to get to do this alongside all of you!

Grace & Peace,
Pastor Peach (aka Pastor Christy)
