A History of Methodism: Division and Brokenness
Johnhilker   -

The first major break in Methodism occurred over slavery.  John Wesley was an ardent opponent of slavery, and it was outlawed in the Church in 1789.  Yet as slavery was dividing the nation, so too did it divide Methodism.  We explore one of the principle texts used to undergird the inclusion of slave holders in the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Associated Scripture: 1 Peter 2:18-25
