A History of Methodism: Revival and Growth
Johnhilker   -

The United States was experiencing a Second Great Awakening, a spiritual movement filled with revivals and camp meetings in which Methodism flourished.  It was experimental in nature and flexible in structure, but the threat of schism is looming.  In that liminal space between what was and what would be, the Methodists of the early nineteenth century were part of an unprecedented explosion of ministry and membership. Associated Scripture: Psalm 85:6-13
