Fueling Our Faith: Abstinence
Ecclesiastes says there is a time for everything under Heaven (3:1), and that includes talking about sex. Our final means of grace in our worship series is abstinence. It’s not just for those who are single, but for all Christians. Scripture reveals that we are called to seasons of celibacy, but why? Just as fasting was a time of focus and purification, abstinence can help us to untangle ourselves from a sex-obsessed culture, focus on other means of expression, and sanctify ourselves. The Apostle Paul bravely tackled the issue of sex with the Church in Thessalonica almost two thousand years ago, inviting them into this practice. This Sunday we will share some of the other Scriptures that address the practice of abstinence, and see how our practice, no matter how seasonal or temporary, can have a deep spiritual impact upon us.
