Stone Table: Tablets, Altars, and Tombs Made of Stone
Crozetumc   -

The climax of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe centers around the sacrificial death and resurrection of Aslan, just as Christianity centers around Christ’s sacrificial offering of himself upon the cross and subsequent resurrection on Easter.  In the Bible, crucial events are marked in stone: the commandments of the covenant at Mt. Sinai on stone tablets, the altars built by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob out of stones, and the tomb where Jesus’ body was laid and sealed in stone.  In C.S. Lewis’ story, the stone table unites all of these and helps to recall the permanence of stone, like the promises and power of God. Associated Scripture: Luke 23:50-24:9
