Tithing, giving ten percent of all that one earns, was an essential element of religious life for the Ancient Israelites and their spiritual descendants, the Jews, throughout the Old Testament. It is assumed that people were going to tithe in the New Testament, as Jesus remarks about tithing practices, but does not spend time defining it. So why have so many Christians lost that connection to faithful giving? What we lose is the power tithing brings to the gift and the giver: tithing transforms both!
