There is this underlying pressure and expectation that the best disciples of Christ will be evangelical and make other disciples.  While the Great Commission and Christ’s command to make disciples is a vital [part of our work in the Church, we are not just churning out new believers.  Sometimes our work is that of mercy.  This Sundays Scripture reveals that Jesus himself offers up a model for righteousness in a Samaritan, and the Samaritan never tries to convert the injured man in Jesus’ story to his faith, but rather seeks first to serve and enact mercy.  Perhaps true discipleship is service that leads others to want to know more, encounter more, and become more in God’s grace.
